Prep

Prep at Tingalpa State School is a year filled with fun, learning, making new friends, discovering talents and finding out about how school works.

Prep is available to all children who are turning 5 by the 30 June in the year they enrol in prep. Prep is full-time and class sizes are up to 25 students with a teacher and a teacher aide. In prep, students learn through play, investigations, real life situations, routines and transitions, focused learning and teaching.

Our prep students begin their year separate from the larger school community. During the first half of the year the students are slowly introduced to the school through supported activities. Student leaders are specifically allocated to our preppies and help organise lunch time activities for them.

Prep Curriculum

The Early Years Curriculum Guidelines have been designed for use in all prep classes. Prep is play-based and child-centred. It clearly identifies enquiry-based learning and investigations as key elements. Teachers plan learning experiences based on the five learning areas, social and personal learning, health and physical learning, language learning and communication, early mathematical understandings and active learning processes.

These five areas are linked to the Australian Curriculum. Students participate in carefully organised and engaging units of work in English, mathematics, science and history.

We are continually amazed at the potential of our prep students and design programs to assist them to reach their full learning potential while creating responsible and independent thinkers.
