Welcome to Prep at Tingalpa

Prep at Tingalpa State School is a year filled with fun, learning, making new friends, discovering talents and finding out how school works.

Children learn through play, investigations and real-life experiences in a caring and engaging environment. We design learning experiences that help each student develop confidence, independence and a love of learning.

When can my child start Prep?

Children are generally eligible to start Prep if they turn 5 years old by 30 June in the year they enrol. Prep is a full-time program, with class sizes of up to 25 students supported by a teacher and a teacher aide.

Enrolling in Prep

Tingalpa State School has a School Enrolment Management Plan. Families living within the school catchment can apply for enrolment by providing the required documents. Applications from outside the catchment are subject to the school's enrolment criteria, waitlists and available places.

Step 1 — Check your catchment

Check whether your child's principal place of residence is within the Tingalpa State School catchment area.

Step 2 — Prepare your documents

Before an in-catchment enrolment pack can be issued, please provide:

  • Primary proof of residency — a current rates notice, rental/lease agreement or unconditional contract of sale.
  • Secondary proof of residency — a utility bill showing the same address and the parent/carer's name.
  • Your child's birth certificate.

The school may request additional evidence of residency where necessary. See the official School Enrolment Management Plan for eligibility requirements.

Step 3 — Collect your enrolment pack

Once the required documents have been provided, families can collect an enrolment pack and book an enrolment interview with the school.

Learning in Prep

Prep is play-based and child-centred, with enquiry-based learning and investigations as key elements. Teachers plan carefully organised, engaging learning experiences aligned with the Australian Curriculum.

Prep students learn across English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS), Technologies, The Arts, Health and Physical Education, and Languages.

We are continually amazed at the potential of our Prep students. Our programs support their development into responsible, independent thinkers and help them realise their full learning potential.

School tours and Prep information sessions

Our priority is student learning, and routine classroom tours during teaching time are limited to avoid disruption. Families are encouraged to explore this website for information about our school. For details of any scheduled Prep information or transition sessions, please contact the school office.
