Tingalpa State School French-Australian Bilingual Program

In 2015, Tingalpa State School implemented a new and exciting initiative, a French- Australian Bilingual program. This program has the support of Department of Education and the French Ministry of Education via the French Embassy in Canberra.

2017 saw a major shift for our program as Education Queensland and French Embassy, Canberra, agreed to sign a partnership that led to an AEFE (Agency for French Education Abroad) accreditation for the French-Australian Bilingual Program, from Prep to Year 3. Tingalpa State School is the only school in Queensland to achieve AEFE accreditation and to implement a harmonised French and Australian Curriculum.

In 2023, with the popularity of the program increasing, Education Queensland expanded the program across two campuses, Tingalpa State School and Whites Hill State College. Whites Hill State College is a Prep to Year 12 campus offering students in the French-Australian Bilingual program the opportunity to continue in the program into high school.

Studies demonstrate that nblingualism records higher academic performances, as well as greater personal skills that can be used in various domains of life, not being restricted to educational fields. Research has all so demonstrated that bilingual students, generally, do better on standardised test, go further in their tertiary studies, have opportunities to travel widely for work and can earn higher incomes once in the work force, than monolingual people.

French assessments are aligned with the BOEN requirements, while English assessments are aligned with AC requirements. Assessments for other subjects are aligned with the harmonised requirements of BOEN and AC.

Families will receive a Education Queensland report each semester, which will include BOEN grading of French. A French Livret Scolaire Unique is available on request.

French trained, native French speaking teachers have been recruited to work alongside our Australian teachers on this innovative program. All teachers are required to be registered with Queensland College of Teachers.
